When "Just Another Networking Event" Isn't the Answer

Most networking events follow the same script. A room, some name tags, a stack of business cards that end up in a drawer by Monday. People leave with a lot of contacts and not one real connection.

When Club Works reached out, they knew one thing for certain: they didn't want to run that script again. What they didn't have yet was the why underneath that instinct. Through our process (Discovery →Strategy→Design→Execution→Impact), we uncovered the Experience they envisioned.

Discover: Uncovering the Real Problem

Every engagement starts the same way for us: we listen before we plan anything. Club Works came to us with an instinct, not a spec. "Not another networking event" tells you what to avoid. It doesn't tell you what to build.

So we dug in. Through Discovery, the real issue surfaced fast: their members weren't short on chances to meet people, they were short on reasons to go past "nice to meet you." Business cards were getting exchanged and forgotten by Monday. The room wasn't the problem — nothing in it was designed to move people toward an actual relationship.

That's the difference between a logistics problem and a connection problem. We were solving the second one.

Strategize: Defining What "Meaningful" Actually Means

With the real problem named, we sat down with Club Works members to define success on their terms. Not attendance. Not swag. Connection — the kind that actually moves a business forward.

We also had a built-in advantage: the event would live inside Club Works' own space. That gave the strategy two jobs — connect people meaningfully, and let the space itself do some of the selling to the members experiencing it.

Design: A Reason to Show Up, A System to Connect

Good intentions don't create good rooms. Design does.

We booked a guest speaker to give people a reason to walk through the door beyond "networking" — content that pulled people in and gave the room something to talk about before they ever shook a hand. Catering, promotional materials, and signage were built to feel like Club Works at its best, not a rented-out space for the night.

Then came the piece that made this event different from every other mixer in Indiana: the Connection Scorecard.

Instead of leaving connection to chance, we built a system for it — a card that scored depth over volume. Meeting someone new was worth 3 points, but only if you also went a step further. An email exchange: 1 point. A LinkedIn connection: 2. A booked 1:1: 5. And the highest-value move in the room — making an introduction that actually helped someone — was worth 10.

Networking became a game with a purpose. The goal wasn't to collect the most names. It was to earn the most meaningful points in the room.

Execute: Dozens of Networkers, One Room, Real Conversations

In August, dozens of professionals filled Club Works' space. The speaker set the tone. The Scorecard set the behavior. Instead of the usual thirty-second handshake-and-move-on, people were working the room with intention — trading real problems, booking real follow-ups, making real introductions.

That's the difference between an event that happens to people and one people participate in.

Impact: We Don't Get Paid If It Doesn't Work

Here's where we do things differently. Before the event, we worked with Club Works to define what success actually looks like — in this case, new members who are genuinely value-aligned with the organization, not just names added to a roster.

And we stand behind that number with the Momentum Promise: if a client fully engages the process and the agreed-upon impact doesn't materialize, Momentum doesn't get paid. Not "we'll do better next time." Not a discount. No fee.

That number is still playing out — real relationships take longer to prove than a headcount does, and that's exactly the point. This event wasn't built to fill a room for one night. It was built to move Club Works' mission forward.

What This Means for Your Next Event

If your company already runs events — and the next one needs to feel different — this is what a real corporate event experience in Indiana can look like: a partner who finds the real problem before proposing a solution, designs with intention, and backs it with a promise that puts skin in the game.
